Our story as a church is about Legacy. We believe the book of Acts teaches us how the church is supposed to function and how it's supposed to transition leadership. We believe in mentoring, true discipleship and following God's example of raising up leaders through relationship then releasing them into ministry as we sense God's call on their lives. You may have heard that Pastor Jordan Biel is now our lead pastor but do you know the legacy and foundation that has been laid by faithful servants of Jesus? Here's our church history timeline.
On Aug. 10th, 1964, Pastor Thomas McClellan broke ground along with a handful of faithful believers for the building of their new church, Corinth Assembly. The cornerstone was laid on April 12th, 1970 and they had their first worship service.
Pastor William Lichty pastored from 1972 to 1983 and built the parsonage and education wing.
In 1976, Corinth Christian Academy was established which was later moved to Pleasant Valley, now known as Victory Christian School.
Pastor James Hetherington pastored from 1984 to 1990. Through his leadership, the church got on the right track financially with fresh vision for the future. He believed that God was going to bring many more to this church to find the hope of Jesus Christ.
Pastor Mark and Pam Biel answered the call from God to come from Florida and began as pastor on Easter April 1992. Under the leadership of Pastor Biel, the church completed $140,000 in renovations and became debt-free again in 1998. This was a milestone that brought new life and excitement as people continued to be saved and added to the church family. Corinth Assembly of God was renamed Rock of Grace Family Ministries in 1999 with the vision of our church being a family of believers that the community could come to and find hope. 2006 brought a year of excitement as the new foyer and large children's wing were added to the building. Pastor Mark and Pam pastored Rock of Grace for almost 26 years and have left a legacy of God's faithfulness. Through their leadership, the church grew to 400 in weekly attendance in a town of 1900. Hundreds have come to Christ and many have been sent out into full-time ministry.
Pastor Jordan Biel came to serve Rock of Grace as Worship Leader and Youth Pastor after college in January of 2005. He stepped away from Youth Ministry to answer the call of God to begin Innovate Records, a company that launches Christian artists. In 2015, he heard God's voice speaking to him about pastoring Rock of Grace. He was mentored by his dad, Pastor Mark over the course of two years and was formally commissioned as the new Senior Pastor on Dec. 31, 2017. As you can see from the pictures, God moved in incredible ways and there was a sense of unity and momentum as he and his wife Danielle were prayed over with the laying on of hands by the church Board and Elders and District Pastor, John Wooton.
